The Builders of the Future

Meeting Generation Alpha – Part 14 – On The Generations

The youngest of our current cohorts are Generation Alpha. You may know them as iPad kids who act exactly like every other crop of kids who have ever existed. Some day, sooner than we might like, they will have grown into adults and will make their imprint on our world much as those who came before have already done. What can we expect from these children of the future?

First let’s explore their ways of thinking, aesthetics, and values. These are determined by their generational placements:

Generation Alpha officially began on March 12, 2011 and the last of them will be born on July 6, 2025. This generation primarily features Pluto in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces. The first half of the cohort has Uranus in Aries while the second has Uranus in Taurus. Let’s explore what these mean:

  • Uranus tells us how these people think

  • Neptune tells us about their aesthetics

  • Pluto tells us what they value

Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign, ruled by Saturn. It is the definer and the achiever. Capricorn is solid, consistent, and somewhat predicable. Pluto is the magnifier and it will exaggerate the characteristics of the sign which it is in. With Pluto in Capricorn we should expect driven individuals with their eye on the prize. The values for this cohort will be fundamentally linked to concrete, measurable results. Pluto’s influence makes this extremely important to them as Saturn is known for its boundaries and limits. This cohort will have a strong sense of the rules and organizing principles of their world and will identify with them. These are no rebels, more like loyal contributors to the construction of the agreed-upon project. They will value patience and action, measuring carefully against the situation before choosing to engage with it. In times of challenge and disruption Generation Alpha will choose to respond based upon their primary value and will invariably take the option that provides stability, as that is what is most important to them.

Pisces is the mutable water sign, ruled by Jupiter. While the first months of Generation Alpha will continue the aesthetic of Gen Z preceding the great bulk of this cohort will have Neptune in Pisces. Pisces goes with the flow and is notably open-minded and non-judgmental. This should not be confused for being widely accepting, rather it is deeply comfortable with its own senses and faith and is thereby mostly unconcerned with what comes. Neptune is the dissolver and it will make matters in this area fuzzier, unclear, dreamy, and often delusional. Neptune is showing us how these people want things to be and how they wish them to appear. With Neptune in Pisces we should expect an aesthetic sense rooted in adaptability, faithful embrace, and the extremes of what is possible. It is a mutable water sign so it will present as inconsistent and quickly evolving, but always optimistic. For this cohort new and wild ideas and approaches will be considered and sampled with little regard for the considerations of others. Neptune’s influence will always obscure clarity and will produce in volume both the dream and the delusion. This cohort will greatly appreciate comforting circumstances and will expect everything to be inviting, welcoming, and sincere. This cohort will be frequently incorrect on matters of what is true, what is worthwhile, and the details. They will struggle with discerning and will be most easily deceived by marketing that tells them this is ok. Neptune in Pisces fears being judged.

Essentially all of Generation Alpha share these Pluto and Neptune placements and these traits will be consistent and generation-defining as a result. In regards to their ways of thinking there is an early group, born in the first seven years, and a later group born in the second. This is typical for generations and the two intellectual mentalities will be complimentary as they occur in consecutive zodiacal signs. We can think of them as the two sides of the same coin.

The first seven-year group has Uranus in the sign of Aries. Aries is the cardinal fire sign, ruled by Mars. It is interested in action, right now. Uranus is the disruptor and it will make matters in its sign more electric, shocking, and surprising. With Uranus in Aries we should expect a way of thinking that starts fires. The action of Uranus is very cooperative with the ways of Aries and this combination is genuinely combustible. These people will be inventive, excitable, and aggressive. Their thinking will arise seemingly out of the blue and be immediately put into effect, demanding action be taken on every whim. The main downsides will be a lack of staying power and a short attention-span. As quickly as ideas present themselves they will begin to fade and that which was interesting in the morning may be forgotten by evening. A key trait of this placement will be a willingness to explore new ideas at face-value.

The second seven-year group has Uranus in the sign of Taurus, a distinctly different experience. Taurus is the fixed earth sign, ruled by Venus. It is receptive of that which has substantial value. Taurus is the slow-but-steady endurance champion that only gets up from its comfortable resting place in the fields should the reward be sufficiently motivating. Uranus combines harshly with Taurus because its nature to disrupt runs up against the settled, solid ground. This placement will be stubborn and and will think from their values. When disrupted they will be frustrated and agitated at having their peace and calm disturbed. As Taurus is a fixed sign this cohort will be resilient and certain about what it thinks, possibly to a level of snobbery. They will be ready, willing, and importantly, able to defend their ideas and will more often than not emerge victorious. The main downside will be the potential to act out in irrational ways if they do not receive what they believe to be their just rewards.

Generation Alpha will think of themselves as accomplished, imaginative, able, and devoted. If they perceive that they are failing to meet one of these standards then that will be the source of their discontentment. As is the case with all generations they will see these ways of being as normal, and if you understand what is normal for them you will have greater success communicating with them. When interacting with Generation Alpha these are the key things to do for best results:

  • Uranus in Aries – participate in their excitement

  • Uranus in Taurus – ask them their opinion

  • Neptune in Pisces – appreciate their vision

  • Pluto in Capricorn – honor their boundaries

As with all generations, on an individual basis outcomes in these areas will be modified by personal planets and the dignity of the ruling planet of the sign. All born under this generational configuration will possess these traits but they may be expressed more positively, negatively, grandly or slightly, depending on the personal chart. We’ll discuss how that works later in this series but the foundational placements as presented here will always be present in those born under this configuration.
